When you open a file in CATalyst, the file displays as a color coded tab located just below the Toolbars. The name of the file currently displayed on the screen appears on the tab in bold. If the file name does not fit on the tab, CATalyst displays the first and last portion of the name with a ellipsis in the middle.
The color of the tab will allow you to quickly tell what type of file is open. The colors are as follows:
| Manage Jobs | Light Blue |
| Jobs (.sgngl) | Green |
| Caption Files (.sgcap) | Yellow |
| Dictionaries (.sgdct) | Red |
| Steno Notes (.sgstn) | Pink |
| Keyboard Maps (.sgkbd) | Purple |
| Fill-in-Fields List (.csv) | Blue |
You can close a file from the tab by either double clicking the tab or right clicking the tab and selecting Save, Close, or Save and Close. If there are any unsaved changes when closing a file, you will be prompted to save the changes. You can tell If the file has not been saved by looking for the asterisk (*) at the end of the tab.

You can have multiple files open on the same computer at the same time and the tabs will display in the order the files were opened. You can click and drag a tab to move it to the left or right in the tab row. To move forward between the tabs by using Ctrl-Tab on your keyboard or press Ctrl-Shift-Tab to move backwards.
If the Manage Jobs tab is closed, you can reopen it by clicking the Manage Jobs icon or click Function, Manage Jobs (Alt-u, j).
