This article will show how to setup the Zoom AMS-44 Audio Interface Device for use with Direct Audio in CATalyst.

NOTE:  This article is for informational purposes only. The Zoom AMS-44 is not a Stenograph product and cannot provide assistance with installation or troubleshooting. To get assistance, please visit their website at https://zoomcorp.com/en/us/.

  1. Plug the USB cable into the right most USB-C port on the back of the audio interface and plug the other end of the USB cable into your computer. The left USB port is for connecting an AC adapter and is not needed.

  2. Download and install the AMS-44 drivers from Zoom’s website which can be found here.

  3. After the drivers are installed, check your Windows sound settings to verify the installation. The audio interface should appear as Line 4-Zoom AMS-44 Driver.

NOTE: You do not need to set the Zoom AMS-44 as the default device.

  4. On the physical device, make sure the top right switch for Music/Streaming is set to Music. The left most switch should be set to Mic/Line and not Guitar.

NOTE: If set to Streaming, then Channels 3 and 4 are considered left and right stereo and will not be seen by CATalyst.

  5. One the left hand side of the device, make sure the switches for BATTERY and 48V [1-4] are set to OFF.

NOTE: If you are using condenser microphones, then the 48V switch must be set to ON. Consult your microphone documentation to see if your microphones are condenser microphones.

  6. On the right hand side of the device, make sure DIRECT MONITOR and LOOPBACK are set to OFF.

  7. Follow the directions for Fully In-Person in the Direct Audio (Multi-Channel Audio) article on the Solution Center. Select 4 Channels Line (4-Zoom AMS-44 Driver) for In-Person audio.

  8. When recording Direct Audio with the Zoom AMS-44, there will always be four channels in the Direct Audio Record pane regardless of how many microphones are physically connected. Make sure the gain dials on the Zoom AMS-44, is set to zero for the unused channels.
